Co-operative Values
Our school,Northfleet School for Girls,is a co-operative trust school. This means we work together around 6 values: equality ,self-responsibility, self-help, equity, solidarity and democracy. Our students think that the co-operative values are very important because it can affect students behaviour and teachers believe that the words mean a lot so they are very important to the community..
One important thing our school believes as part of the co-operative trust is being kind to others.
We spoke to teachers and students today to ask them why they thought kindness was so important.
Miss Collingridge, one of our assistant Headteachers, and she said,
Kindness is doing something for other people, it makes them feel happy. It doesn’t have to be big, it could be doing someone’s shopping or just holding the door open. Miss Collingridge (the assistant headteacher) has 12 secret spy’s who are being kind around the school and for people who have been off school for a while they will give them a welcome back card.
Emma Melvin (who is part of the BBC’s production operations team) has said,
“Being Kind is about doing something good to benefit others. I believe everyone should be kind to everyone else everyday, without prejudice.”
Some of our Year 11 students have answered some questions and they have said:
“When you work together you can get use to it and when working in groups it is better.” They have also said that to take responsibilty for your actions you can discuss what you have done.
The final quote is ours,
if you walk around with a smile on your face people will usually smile back. When you smile people around you smile and become happy. This has a posistive influenece towards peoples behaviour.
