Tomorrow morning at 7:41, parts of the country will be plunged in to darkness as the first solar eclipse visible in England since 1999 happens. A solar eclipse is when the moon goes in front of the sun to cause darkness. It is very rare for you to see an eclipse as they only happen nearly every one or two years. Although eclipses are relatively common they are only visible when the moons shadow passes over you and for each eclipse this is quite a small area.
There are some negative parts of the solar eclipse such as you can damage your eyes by looking at the sun and you can even be blinded. We interviewed one of our science teachers, Miss Huddle who said that “The eclipse is a very exciting thing but still has its risks; normally you shouldn’t be looking at the Sun with your eyes. Even though the moon is going to cover parts of the Sun some of the light that does pass through is very dangerous and can cause blindness”. She also said the safest way possible to watch an eclipse is “To watch it through a simple pin hole or wear protective glasses that you can buy online.”
This year the Earth is going to have a total of 4 eclipses march the 20th being the 1st one. Then two weeks later there will be a Lunar eclipse which will be the 3rd in a series of 4 lunar eclipses that will form the Blood Moon. This eclipse can be seen in parts of North America, South America, Asia and Australia.
